As big boat sailing became difficult, he took up Model Yachting on the advice of a friend. Even when he needed a wheelchair to get around, he still managed to sail his One Metre. His thumbs still worked!
After his death in 2013 his family decided to have an annual race at his home club Lincoln Radio Sailing Club in October close to his birthday. Donations on the day go to the RLNI
